David Zalik’s recent opinion piece, “Jewish day schools are a bubble, and that is the point,” raises an important question for parents: How do we best prepare our children to confidently navigate a complex and increasingly interconnected world?
At San Diego Jewish Academy, we believe preparation begins with a strong foundation. When students are truly known, challenged academically, grounded in their values, and secure in their sense of identity and belonging, they are better equipped to engage thoughtfully and confidently with people, ideas, and experiences beyond our campus.
A Jewish day school should not close students off from the world. It should give them the knowledge, curiosity, confidence, and sense of self they need to enter it fully. Our goal is to graduate young people who know who they are, understand what they value, and are prepared to contribute meaningfully wherever their paths take them.
Zalik’s piece offers a thought-provoking perspective on why that foundation matters. I encourage you to read it and consider what it means for the way we prepare children not simply for their next school or college, but for the lives they will lead beyond them.
