UC CALIFORNIA NATURALIST PROGRAM
- June 16 - July 13
- Does not earn course credit for SDJA
- Open to all 9th-12th grade students.
- 5-week Hybrid Program (Tuesday online classes, Thursday eld days)
The California Naturalist Certification is a unique, college-level course that blends classroom learning, eld exploration, and real environmental science. Students gain a deeper understanding of California’s ecosystems— including ecology, geology, wildlife, water, forests, and climate—while building practical skills in observation, environmental stewardship, and scientific communication. The course includes guest lectures from scientists and industry professionals, fieldwork at local natural areas, participation in community and participatory science (including contributions to iNaturalist), and a capstone project that addresses a real environmental challenge. Students develop strong scientific inquiry skills, leadership abilities, and a meaningful connection to the natural world. Successful completion earns students the official UC California Naturalist Certification and eligibility for 4 academic credits through an official UC Davis transcript.
Camp Carmel Creek: Middle School
Camp Carmel Creek's middle school camps offer engaging, hands-on experiences designed to inspire creativity, confidence, and skill-building for students entering grades 6–8.
Half and full day options available.
ATHLETICS PRE-SEASON CAMP
Athletics Pre-Season Camps help middle school students sharpen their skills, build confidence, and prepare for the upcoming school sports season.
Camp Carmel Creek: K-6
Each week, campers choose one of four Adventure Tracks, allowing them to dive deeper into the activities they love most. These specialized tracks provide project-based learning, skill development, and opportunities for personal growth—all delivered in the joyful, energetic way that makes summer camp unforgettable.
While each track focuses on a unique theme, every camper participates in four core activities within their track throughout the week, building skills and confidence along the way. Special events, rotating activities, and exciting add-ons keep every week fresh and full of surprises.
Camp Carmel Creek: ECC
Open to current or incoming SDJA ECC Students.
At camp, we provide a safe place for your children to explore and grow through our sunny months. Our days are filled with activities that support learning and development, while having the best time with friends and teachers.
The continuity from the school year into summer is important for our littlest campers, so we try to keep similar routines with even more outdoor fun mixed into the day.
At the end of each week, on Friday, we come together as a full camp to celebrate Shabbat. We sing and tell stories, we highlight our values of the week.
Summer School
The upper school will offer Geometry and Chemistry courses over the summer on the SDJA campus, and taught by an SDJA facility member. By taking this course at SDJA, it will be recorded on the SDJA transcript. We will include this option in the course registration portal. There is an additional tuition fee for summer classes. Summer classes are subject to minimum enrollment.
